Stress-Free Nursing The New Nurse or Graduate Nurse The Nurse

An Interview as an Experience Nurse

The move across the country from Texas to Nevada brought about several problems that needed solutions. One important item on my list, get a job. The response to my application, an application of a nurse with a BSN and two years of experience, within twenty-four hours, a recruiter from a hospital contacted me. After an arranged phone call with the recruiter, I was informed more about the units and benefits. She asked a few questions and arranged the interview.

The interview, the second time in my career that I would sit for a nursing interview. I had to prepare for the meeting. How did I want to go about this? I continued with the tried and true method. The same method I used to get my first nursing job. I looked up the questions, the same questions I had researched before—the questions found on Printable: Interview Questions. I pulled out index cards and wrote the question on the top line on each card.

I sat down and answered each question. It’s interesting to see how my answers changed from no experience to two-plus years of Medical-Surgical Nursing. The questions took me a few days to answer with examples and stories that fit the answer. Please, please do not do this prep the night before. It took about a week to answer all of the cards. The harder questions, I thought over until the answer came to me some much quicker than others.

After I completed all the cards, I began to review them. Each card read to myself and out loud to rehearse. Highlight or underline keywords in your statement that you want to remember to use when answering. As always, get good sleep the night before, dress well, and arrive early. How did your second interview go? Was it easier or harder than your first interview?
