Exams in Nursing school were definitely not the highlight by any standard.  Many of my classmates, myself included felt that many of the questions were trick questions.  I want to clear this up, its sorta a  trick but one that is easy to overcome.  The method here is that certain words need to trigger a specific type of answers.  Once this is understood, those trick questions, become so easy.  Let me demonstrate.

#1 Key Word: Initial

When reading the full scenario and reading the item you want to look out for a keyword here if you see the word “initial.”  When  the question is stated like, “The nurse  initially, does…”  When this word is seen your answer will most likely have to do with assessment.   When anything new occurs with a patient, you will assess.  This is your go too. So when you see the word-initial think evaluate your patient.
